Maybe Yes, Maybe No

Maybe I did

"I think the baby-boomer parent ought to say, 'I've learned from mistakes I may or may not have made.'"

George W. Bush - NY Times,
Aug. 22, 1999

Children, gather 'round, Dad wants to tell you all he has learned from mistakes that he may or may not have made. First, I've never drowned. What I've learned from this mistake is that it's a good thing not to drown. Second, I've never jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge. I've learned a lot from this mistake, too, mostly that it leads to drowning, which we already know isn't good. Third, I may or may not have used illegal drugs. What I may or may not have learned from this mistake, which I may or may not have made, is mostly what I may or may not want to talk to you about today.

Maybe I didn't

George's possible mistakes go
way back to Genesis 2 & 3.....

And the LORD God formed George W. Bush of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and nothing but the breath of life; and he became a living soul. And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put George W. Bush whom he had formed. And the LORD God commanded George W. Bush, saying, Of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto George W. Bush with her; and he did eat. And the LORD God called unto George W. Bush, and said unto him, Where art thou? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? And George W. Bush said, "I've learned from mistakes I may or may not have made."

Apologies to "the woman;" we're hoping she also is a public figure

MY WAY

Well, now the press is near, and so I face the daily curtain,
My friends, I'll make it clear, or maybe not, of that I'm certain.
I've lived a life that's full, or maybe not, that's what I'll say,
How more or maybe less, I did it my way.

Regrets I've had a few, or maybe not, I'd hate to mention.
I did what I wanted to, or maybe not, what's my intention?
I'll plan each tortured word, each little sound, of what I'll say,
Of how, true or false, I did it my way.

Yes, there are times I'm sure you knew,
When I spit out more that you would chew.
But through it all when you had doubts,
I mixed it up and dished it out.
I faced it all but I could stall,
And did it my way.

For what is a man, what has he got?
To speak the truth, is that a lot?
Can't say the things he truly feels,
Of fun he's had and shady deals.
Let the record show,
You'll never know....
I'll do it ..... My Way!
