Tonight our search is not for the illusive Sasquatch or for shy Nessie... No, nothing that easy... Tonight we seek a rarer prey.

The Compassionate Conservative has long been the fantastic stuff of legend and lore, especially very late at night when we're apt to believe anything.

Many well-meaning people swear that they've seen its tracks, but it usually turns out to be the Giant Rat of Sumatra.

It is agreed by all that it is a rare specimen, but just how rare perhaps none of us has truly guessed.

There are even those who warn that it can take any shape at will, and at times appears as a most unnatural creature.

It is a small wonder, then, that so many give up the search all together and pursue more plausible interests.

But for the faithful person here and there, it is very hard to give up the quest.

And so it is ... Perhaps we shall never see The Compassionate Conservative... But tomorrow is a new day, and the search will go on...
